Sometimes determining the age of your roof can be challenging, especially if you don’t have access to the previous history of your property. However, there are several (simple) ways to determine your roof’s age.
#1 Leaks
If your roof has small or large leaks, it’s an indication it has been around for a while. Through everyday wear and tear, the protective layer of shingles can be compromised resulting in leaks.
#2 Gutter Filled with Granules
It’s not uncommon to find small amounts of granules in your gutters, however if you notice more than normal amounts, it’s likely an indication your roof is nearing the end of its life.
#3 Sunlight Sneaks in Through Roof Boards
You will have to climb up into your attic to check this. If you can see sunlight seeping through, it’s a sign your roof boards are aged and damaged.
#4 Sign- Curled, Buckled or Missing Shingles
Looking at the structure of your shingles are a great tell to determine your roof’s age. Examine the part of your roof that gets the most natural sunlight and look for any curling to get a better grasp on the life expectancy of your roof. Missing shingles can also indicate shape your roof is in proving the underpinning might be wearing down.
If you are unsure about your roof’s age and health, it’s best to schedule a professional assessment to determine next steps. For more information contact Truvorne at (850) 787-1410.
