The simple answer is yes. Prior to hurricane season, homeowners should take precautions to ensure their family and property are protected throughout the season. Ideally, preparations should be made in the off season, however, if your roof creates an uninhabitable home environment, you may be limited on choices. If you opt to replace your roof during the season, you are putting your property at risk of a hurricane hitting during the replacements. Although we get plenty of notice prior to a hurricane, roof replacements can take several weeks and if you get caught in a storm during the repair, your home will be at significant risk. However, there are ways to “patch” up your roof until it’s safe to remove and replace your roof. Shingle replacements, basic repairs and tarping are all options for temporary fixes until you can tackle the whole issue. If you’re in need of a major repair or roof replacement, schedule it now for the off season so you are confident going into the next season.
